Refractory Corrosion Resistance in Molten Lead-Niobium Glass

Abstract

It is shown that chromium-containing refractories containing more than 80% Cr2O3 are most corrosion-resistant in molten lead-niobium glass at 1440°C. Alongside good corrosion resistance fusion-cast high-chromium refractories are capable of providing prescribed glass electrophysical properties, obtained on contact with chromium refractory. The data provided point to the possibility of replacing platinum melting equipment during preparation of lead-niobium glass with use of a small bath electric melting furnace with a lining of fusion-cast high-chromium refractory.
