Abstract

Results are provided for a study of diatomite of the Il’insk field (Sverdlovsk region) for preparation of unmolded insulation materials and their use as heat insulating materials in crucibles with molten aluminum. Use of diatomite as a heat insulating material makes it possible to reduce power consumption during holding molten aluminum in the resistance furnace crucible, prevents development of hydrogen porosity, and does not lead to melt saturation with silicon.
