Resumo
The article reviews the particularities in the use of speech in press conferences in Italian, as well as the principal linguistic and extralinguistic factors influencing their form and content. The dual, namely dialogical and monological basis of this genre, makes it important to analyze its features. The case of interest is the dual nature of the genre: despite the presence of a dialogical part that loses its communicative function and becomes a means of strengthening the position of the speaker for a more effective impact on the audience, press conferences are mostly monological, the fact of which is proved by the statistical analysis.
