The article is devoted to some features of the use of opposition constructions in oral monologue speech. The constructions of opposition taken as a basis, previously identified by the methods of corpus linguistics for written publicist speech, now explored in TEDTalk monologue speeches in English. The search for sentences illustrating certain constructions was carried out by a continuous sample. The analysis showed that some of them are used more often than others in oral explanatory discourse, and also made it possible to identify new constructions that were not previously classified by researchers as opposition constructions.
