The colloqual elements within the Old Russian literary texts in the middle of the XV century
摘要
The article parses the syntactic and lexical peculiarities in the hagiographies by Pachomius the Logothete, and the unique text elements that simulate the colloquial language, namely: direct speech, praesens historicum, lexis (vocabulary) with evocative suffix.

Correlation of pitch variations on the emphasis of American public speaking
摘要
The aim of the investigation, the results of which are presented in the article, was to find out pitch variations in theses and arguments in public speaking. The data obtained revealed that speakers use this prosodic feature very energetically to attract the listeners’ attention and to make the presentation more emphatic.

On semasiological princiles of constructing and usage of medical eponyms in Spanish, English and Russian languages
摘要
The paper discusses preliminary results of a comparative onomasiological investigation related to constructing medical eponyms, which correspond to identical denotata, in Spanish, English and Russian languages. Pragmatic and social-cultural (ethic) motives of generation, extensive usage and variations of both eponyms and their acronym forms as the tools for renewal of the respective terminological systems are explained. The principle of usage (not usage) of proper names in medical terms has been revealed. A discovery of interaction between the pragmatic motivation and the social-cultural motivation is described.

Ambiguous invitations in the American communicative culture
摘要
This paper deals with those features of the speech act of Invitation in the American communicative culture that often cause misunderstanding in cross-cultural communication. Based on an empirical research, it examines the use of the so-called «ambiguous» or «phony» invitations and discusses the criteria which can be used to distinguish ambiguous invitations from unambiguous ones.
