Abstract
Two paths of defect creation in nonmetallic materials with a high concentration of hydrogen atoms are considered. It is shown that there is a direct means of knocking regular atoms of the material into the interstice, as well as a two-stage mechanism of defect creation. It is found that each path of defect creation dominates in a certain energy range of irradiating particles, which is important for the problem of radiation degradation.
