Resumo
There is data on the effect of pregnancy on suicide risk, but there is no data on the role of reproductive choice in the formation of suicide risk. The aim of the study: to identify statistically significant relationships between psychopathological, somatic, socio-demographic factors in women in a situation of reproductive choice. Main results: A statistically significant relationship was confirmed between suicide risk and mental illnesses: anxiety and depression in the group of women in a situation of reproductive choice. The statistically significant relationship between suicide risk and depression is weaker and is associated with fewer signs of anxiety in the group of women who chose to have a child. Somatic diseases have a statistically significant relationship with suicide risk only in the general group of women in a situation of reproductive choice and in the group of women who decided to have an abortion. The presence of a husband, children, and a more mature age of a woman are resources for the prevention of suicide risk in women in a situation of reproductive choice and in a situation when a woman chooses to have an abortion. Additionally, negative statistically significant correlations were found between the suicide risk and the experience of perinatal loss (miscarriages and abortions in the anamnesis). The factors - miscarriage (in the general group of reproductive choice and in the group of women who decided to have an abortion) and abortion (in the group of women who decided to give birth to a child) negatively affect the suicide risk. Conclusion. Reproductive choice is not as much a significant factor for suicide risk as the presence of anxiety and depression. Anxiety, depression are the most significant predictors of suicide risk in women in a situation of reproductive choice. Medical, social and psychological assistance is needed for individuals with high rates of depression and anxiety, regardless of the adopted reproductive choice. Women in the post-abortion period are not studied. It is necessary to develop state programs for the prevention of depression and anxiety. Active monitoring of the condition of these women is necessary for suicide prevention.
