A criterion for the Fπ-residuality of free products with amalgamated cyclic subgroup of nilpotent groups of finite ranks

Azarov D.N.

Abstract

Let G be the free product of nilpotent groups A and B of finite rank with amalgamated cyclic subgroup H, HA and HB. Suppose that, for some set π of primes, the groups A and B are residually Fπ, where Fπ is the class of all finite p-groups. We prove that G is residually Fπ if and only if H is Fπ-separable in A and B.

Möbius bilipschitz homogeneous arcs on the plane

Aseev V.V.

Abstract

A möbius bilipschitz mapping is an η-quasimöbius mapping with the linear distortion function η(t) = Kt. We show that if an open Jordan arc γ ⊂ C with distinct endpoints a and b is homogeneous with respect to the family FK of möbius bilipschitz automorphisms of the sphere C with K specified then γ has bounded turning RT(γ) in the sense of Rickman and, consequently, γ is a quasiconformal image of a rectilinear segment. The homogeneity of γ with respect to FK means that for all x, y ∈ γ {a, b} there exists fFK with f(γ) = γ and f(x) = y. In order to estimate RT(γ) from above, we introduce the condition BR(δ) of bounded rotation of γ, and then the explicit bound depends only on K and δ.

Lebesgue constants of the Walsh system and Banach limits

Astashkin S.V., Semenov E.M.

Abstract

We study the properties of the Lebesgue constants of the Walsh system Ln(W), nN, and apply the results to the theory of Banach limits. We show that the sequence \(\left\{ {\frac{{{L_n}\left( W \right)}}{{{{\log }_2}n}},n \geqslant 2} \right\}\) does not belong to the space of almost convergent sequences ac, which reveals their extremely irregular behavior. Several results of the opposite nature are obtained for some special means of these constants.

Geodesics and shortest arcs of a special sub-Riemannian metric on the Lie group SL(2)

Berestovskiĭ V.N., Zubareva I.A.

Abstract

The authors found geodesics, shortest arcs, cut loci, and conjugate sets for some leftinvariant sub-Riemannian metric on the Lie group SL(2) that is right-invariant relative to the Lie subgroup SO(2) ⊂ SL(2) (in other words, for invariant sub-Riemannian metric on weakly symmetric space (SL(2) × SO(2))/SO(2)).

Optimal cubature formulas for calculation of multidimensional integrals in weighted Sobolev spaces

Boikov I.V.

Abstract

Optimal cubature formulas are constructed for calculations of multidimensional integrals in weighted Sobolev spaces. We consider some classes of functions defined in the cube Ω = [-1, 1]l, l = 1, 2,..., and having bounded partial derivatives up to the order r in Ω and the derivatives of jth order (r < j ≤ s) whose modulus tends to infinity as power functions of the form (d(x, Г))-(j-r), where x ∈ Ω Г, x = (x1,..., xl), Г = ∂Ω, and d(x, Г) is the distance from x to Г.

Light and low 5-stars in normal plane maps with minimum degree 5

Borodin O.V., Ivanova A.O.

Abstract

It is known that there are normal plane maps (NPMs) with minimum degree δ = 5 such that the minimum degree-sum w(S5) of 5-stars at 5-vertices is arbitrarily large. The height of a 5-star is the maximum degree of its vertices. Given an NPM with δ = 5, by h(S5) we denote the minimum height of a 5-stars at 5-vertices in it.

Lebesgue showed in 1940 that if an NPM with δ = 5 has no 4-stars of cyclic type \(\overrightarrow {\left( {5,6,6,5} \right)} \) centered at 5-vertices, then w(S5) ≤ 68 and h(S5) = 41. Recently, Borodin, Ivanova, and Jensen lowered these bounds to 55 and 28, respectively, and gave a construction of a \(\overrightarrow {\left( {5,6,6,5} \right)} \)-free NPM with δ = 5 having w(S5) = 48 and h(S5) = 20.

In this paper, we prove that w(S5) ≤ 51 and h(S5) ≤ 23 for each (\(\overrightarrow {\left( {5,6,6,5} \right)} \)-free NPM with δ = 5.

Finite widely c-supersoluble groups and their mutually permutable products

Vasil’ev A.F., Vasil’eva T.I., Myslovets E.N.

Abstract

A group is c-supersoluble if all its chief factors are isomorphic to simple groups. We introduce the notion of widely c-supersoluble group, which generalizes c-supersolubility. We obtain the properties and find applications of products of mutually permutable subgroups. In particular, we establish the wide c-supersolubility of a finite group that is a product of two mutually permutable c-supersoluble subgroups of coprime indices.

Sidon-type inequalities and strong approximation by Fourier sums in multiplicative systems

Volosivets S.S., Likhacheva T.V.

Abstract

Considering the character systems of Vilenkin groups, we obtain some Sidon-type inequalities that generalize the results by Móricz and Avdispahić–Pepić. We apply the inequalities to the theory of strong approximation of functions by series in character systems. Our results are analogs of the trigonometric results by Totik, Leindler, Németh, and Siddiqi.

Geometric interpretation of the Wagner curvature tensor in the case of a manifold with contact metric structure

Galaev S.V.

Abstract

Considering a manifold (φ, ξ, η, g, X, D) with contact metric structure, we introduce the concept of N-extended connection (connection on a vector bundle (D, π,X)), with N an endomorphism of the distribution D, and show that the curvature tensor of each N-extended connection for a suitably chosen endomorphism N coincides with the Wagner curvature tensor.

Abstract

We prove an analog of the Dodds–Fremlin–Wickstead Theorem on compact domination for homogeneous orthogonally additive polynomials in Banach lattices. The proof is based on linearization of the polynomials which was established earlier by the author.

Automorphisms of some subalgebras of the Toeplitz algebra

Lipacheva E.V., Hovsepyan K.H.

Abstract

We study the automorphism groups of the subalgebras Tm and T (m) of the classical Toeplitz algebra which are invariant under a finite subgroup in S1. We also give description for the automorphism group of the subalgebra of compact operators in Tm. The relationship between the automorphisms of Tm and T (m) is revealed.

On extension of abstract Urysohn operators

Pliev M.A., Popov M.M.

Abstract

We consider the extension of an orthogonally additive operator from a lateral ideal and a lateral band to the whole space. We prove in particular that every orthogonally additive operator, extended from a lateral band of an order complete vector lattice, preserves lateral continuity, narrowness, compactness, and disjointness preservation. These results involve the strengthening of a recent theorem about narrow orthogonally additive operators in vector lattices.
