Abstract

A static solution is offered for the problem of the stability of a smooth freestanding sheet pile wall. The limiting stress state of the soil surrounding the sheet pile wall is determined by way of statics-based theory of limit equilibrium of soil. On the basis of this method, a practical technique is proposed for calculating the depth to which a dowel is lowered into a trench.
