Abstract

The collective acceleration of multiply charged titanium ions on pinched electron beams and the mechanisms of titanium ion implantation into sapphire crystals are studied. Efficient Ti3+ ion implantation is achieved by irradiating sapphire crystals with high current picosecond beams of electrons and Tin+. The ions are shock-implanted into regular positions of the crystalline lattice, replacing Al3+ ions.
