Abstract

Based on chemical analysis and the Langelier index calculation it has been shown for the first time that some natural artesian samples of water from the Cenomanian horizon can be used as a standard of stable high-quality drinking water and can be suitable for scientific research in the field of water chemistry, physics and biology. Such water is chemically (due to a relatively high buffer capacity) and biologically stable with virtually complete absence of organic substances and close-to-zero Langelier index. It can be considered as a drinking water standard that should be used for comparison with any potable waters.
