Abstract
If holes are reamed in a thin-walled gas cylinder with welded reinforcing ribs and supporting elements characterized by residual stress and variable radial rigidity, the holes will be noncircular. The distortion is measured in the production line by means of a Mikron Vario five-coordinate milling center with a built-in Renishaw measuring gage. The noncircularity is found to be complex. To reduce the distortion, two-bore wraparound jaws may be employed in the chuck.
