Damping of vibrations at resonant frequencies of electrical systems
Abstract
Attention focuses on reducing the vibration of energy-intensive electrical systems, such as the power units of autonomous vehicles. The amplitude–frequency spectra of input and output vibrational signals for hydraulic vibrational bearings and cable vibrational dampers are investigated. Cable vibrational dampers are more effective in quenching impact loads, while hydraulic vibrational bearings are better at suppressing long-term vibration.

Thermal characteristics of spindles on rolling bearings
Abstract
The influence of factors such as the following on the frictional and thermal characteristics of a spindle is assessed: the spindle speed, its load, the preliminary tension in the bearings, the lubrication method, the lubricant viscosity, and the heat transfer

Selecting the best ultralow-power turbine at the conceptual-design stage
Abstract
A method is proposed for selecting the best ultralow-power turbine by means of structural and parametric optimization. The method is tested in the conceptual design of the turbine in the pneumatic starter of a diesel engine. The results are compared with optimization and numerical modeling of the flow in the turbine.

Dampers and shock absorbers based on multilayer elastic shells
Abstract
Dampers and shock absorbers consisting of vertical concentric elastic shells are considered. The external and internal shells are made of hard rubber, while the middle shell is made of soft rubber. Independent action of the shells permits optimal loading and energy-efficient operation of the device.

Gas-dynamic coatings
Abstract
The influence of the mechanical and physical characteristics of the applied metal and the parameters of gas-dynamic spraying on the structure and properties of the coating applied is investigated. The strength and corrosion of aluminum, copper, zinc, and nickel coatings are studied.

Informational model of digital manufacturing (ISA-95 standard)
Abstract
The development of an information model of digital manufacturing is considered. The goal of the model is maximum integration of the management systems for enterprise resources (ERP) and the product life cycle (PLM) and for operational management (MES), by expanded application of the provisions of the ISA-95 standard. A methodology is proposed for creating digital doubles of real production processes by the development of the Herbarium integrated engineering software platform (Foundation for Advanced Studies).

Influence of manufacturing errors in a metal-cutting machine with parallel kinematic structure on its machining precision
Abstract
Possible manufacturing and assembly errors in a metal-cutting machine with parallel kinematic structure that affect its kinematic model are analyzed. On the basis of the manufacturing tolerances for the metal-cutting machine, the equations of the direct and inverse kinematic transformations are refined. An algorithm is derived for simulating the influence of geometric errors on the positioning precision of the actuator in the metal-cutting machine.

Geometric errors of numerically controlled milling machines
Abstract
Maintenance of the machining precision of numerically controlled machine tools is considered. Equipment is developed for testing the machining precision of a circular trajectory in the machine tool. On the basis of the test results, parameters for compensating some geometric errors may be determined.

Improving the performance of composite bits with replaceable inserts
Abstract
The stress state of replaceable hard-alloy inserts in composite bits is studied. The influence of the inserts’ design parameters on the stress and strain in cutting is analyzed. Inserts of increased strength and bits of improved performance are developed.

Slow-neutron detector based on thin CVD diamond film
Abstract
A slow-neutron detector based on thin CVD diamond film is discussed. A deep graphitized layer in the diamond film acts as one of the electrodes in the detector. The detector demonstrates low sensitivity to γ radiation, at the background level. The detector is tested with a laboratory neutron source based on the isotope 252Cf in a moderator. Slow neutrons are detected by means of the boron isotope 10В and lithium isotope 6Li. In both cases, slow neutrons are recorded with about 3% efficiency. The efficiency of slow-neutron recording is also assessed theoretically.

Applying solid lubricant to the grinding-wheel surface
Abstract
The application of solid lubricant to the cutting surface of grinding wheels in the course of machining is considered. This technique improves the efficiency and quality of grinding. Two methods of lubricant supply are considered, and an appropriate attachment design is proposed.

Preparations for production in unigraphics NX software
Abstract
The effective application of Unigraphics NX software in preparations for production is discussed. Optional approaches to the design of workpieces and attachments and the development of operations in numerically controlled machine tools on the basis of Unigraphics NX software are outlined.

Cross section of the cut layer in oblique single-edge boring by a radial cutter
Abstract
In order to understand the shaping that results from a particular machining technique, the cross section of the cut layer must be determined. A method is proposed for calculating the parameters of the cutlayer cross section in oblique single-edge boring by a radial cutter. Formulas for the thickness and width of the cut layer are based on the main cutting parameters: the supply, the cutting depth, the diameter of the insert, and the diameter of the hole produced. The proposed calculations may be used in the design of the cutting tool and the machining process.

Sound-absorbing polyurethane foam for the auto industry
Abstract
Ambient noise harms the human organism: it produces high levels of the stress hormones, disrupts the operation of the nervous system, provokes cardiovascular damage, and impairs hearing. In the creation of new noise-reducing materials, the goal is to increase porosity without loss of structural strength. With greater porosity and reduced thickness, acoustic insulation will be lighter, which is better for use in automobiles. In addition, the dynamic characteristics are improved, and vehicle assembly is simplified.
