Eliminating Liquid Entrapment between the Teeth of a Gear-Driven Pump
Аннотация
Entrapment of liquid in the intertooth space of a gear-driven pump is considered. A method is proposed for its elimination. The influence of annular channels on the volume losses in the pump is shown. The decrease in pump efficiency in the presence of annular channels is assessed.

Refined Dynamic Calculation of a Diesel-Engine Crank Mechanism
Аннотация
A mathematical model is proposed for the connecting rod of a diesel engine as a deformable component of a crank mechanism. VisSim 6.0 software is used for dynamic simulation of the connecting rod. Vibration is observed when the force exerted by the gas pressure is a maximum.

Determining the Mean Frictional Coefficient in Metal Cutting
Аннотация
An analytical formula is derived for determining the frictional coefficient at cutter–blank contact, on the basis of the cutting equations and the shear angle, and is verified by means of experimental data. This formula may be used to calculate the cutting parameters, without constraints on the significant factors.

Influence of Particle Size on the Wear Resistance and Strength of Polymer Composites
Аннотация
The wear resistance of polymer composites with components of different particle size and with different filler content is investigated. Formulas are derived for refining the limits of the filler’s supporting properties, in the light of the defects in its multilayer structure. The limiting wall thickness of the structure formed by the nanofiller is determined.

Improvement of Hole Drilling in High-Strength Polymer Laminate
Аннотация
When the end section of helicopter screw blades made of polymer laminate based on glass–carbon fiber and reinforced by titanium foil is drilled, peeling is noted at the entrance to the hole. Such peeling is investigated in the present work. The influence of the cutting speed and supply on the extent of the peeling is established.

Theory of Intermittent Cutting. 3. Description of Tool Exit from the Blank
Аннотация
Vorontsov’s plastic-flow method permits the derivation of a model of cutting for the region where the tool exits the blank. The stress–strain state of the blank is determined, and the dimensions of the plastic-deformation zone are calculated. The main cutting parameters are shown to be variable.

Additive Technology in the Aerospace Industry
Аннотация
Aerospace components may be produced from titanium powder by selective laser sintering. The satisfactory operation of such components under standard loads has been confirmed. In this technology, the manufacturing time and the consumption of titanium are decreased.

Conversion of Low-Thrust Airplane Gas-Turbine Engines to Power Generators
Аннотация
The local market demand for generators of electric power and heat of output between 7 kW and 2.5 MW is analyzed. State programs relating to the large-scale use of such generators in industry and utility companies are reviewed. Data for generator imports to Russia between 2014 and 2017 suggest that this demand will outstrip supply in the near future. It is expedient to convert low-thrust airplane gas-turbine engines to power generators.

Creation and Shaping of Three-Dimensional Ultrafine-Grain Materials
Аннотация
On account of their improved physicomechanical characteristics, materials with ultrafine-grain and nanocrystalline structure are of great interest in manufacturing and elsewhere. There has been considerable research on methods of producing such materials. The techniques most commonly used to produce three-dimensional ultrafine-grain materials are equal-channel angular pressing; cumulative rolling; intense rolling; and friction with mixing. However, little information is available regarding the influence of the shaping conditions on the structure and properties of three-dimensional ultrafine-grain materials. Accordingly, there is a pressing need to find effective structuring and shaping methods for the manufacture of parts from ultrafine-grain materials with enhanced performance. Analysis of structuring and shaping methods indicates that the production of high-quality parts from three-dimensional ultrafine-grain and nanocrystalline materials calls for the development of processes, equipment, and tools such that the physicomechanical characteristics and structure of the materials formed by intense plastic deformation are retained.

Parametric Synthesis of Feed Drives for CNC Machine Tools by Polynomial Approximation of Ideal Low-Frequency Filters
Аннотация
The relations between the dynamic characteristics of a supply drive and its design parameters and the control system based on standard polynomials approximating an ideal low-frequency filter are described. The possibility of implementing those polynomials is analyzed. The operational characteristics and design parameters of drives obtained on that basis are presented and their applications are considered.

Electric-Discharge Milling of Small Airplane-Engine Components
Аннотация
The production of small complex components by electric-discharge milling is studied by experimental methods. Means of optimizing numerical-control software so as to obtain the required shaping precision are proposed. The proposed systems and equipment permit the development and implementation of designs unattainable by other means.

Optimal Tool Design for Grinding Operations
Аннотация
An algorithm is outlined for the design of abrasive tools of optimal structure for a specific grinding operation, ensuring maximum productivity and minimum cost. Systems analysis is employed. Mathematical models for the design calculation are presented, and an example is given to illustrate the optimization of grinding tools.

Surface Roughness in Face Turning of Large-Diameter Parts
Аннотация
The roughness in face turning of large-diameter cylindrical parts is experimentally studied. Parts made of materials that differ in machinability are turned. Recommendations are made regarding the cutting conditions that ensure the elimination of buildup in the face turning of large-diameter parts.

Simulation of Chip Formation and Fracture in the Design of Complex Turning Inserts
Аннотация
Theoretical principles are outlined for the design of complex cutting inserts in conditions of three-dimensional chip formation. Simulation of the formation and fracture of continuous chip provides the basis for developing a system of complex turning inserts with improved performance. Production experience with the new cutting tool is satisfactory.
