Abstract
A method for forming a broadened luminescence spectrum (in order to implement femtosecond lasing) has been proposed based on the polarization angular dependences of the luminescence of YVO4−Nd3+:YVO4 vanadate crystals. The operation of a femtosecond (θ = 25°, ϕ = 0) YVO4−Nd3+:YVO4 laser based on the 4F3/2‒4I11/2 transition with a semiconductor saturable absorber SESAM used for passive mode locking has been demonstrated for the first time. The minimum pulse width reached 780 fs.
