Abstract

It is shown that isolated acoustic waves can arise and propagate in liquids with inhomogeneous spatial distribution of the pressure and density perturbations; the necessary condition of their appearance is significant inhomogeneity of the pulse front structure. The main properties of these wave formations are analyzed within two-dimensional cylindrical geometry, giving substantial grounds to assume the existence of great prospects for their effective practical utilization.
