Abstract

Nickolas Roerich was an artist, thinker, public figure, and traveler. 2024 marks the 150th anniversary of his birth. This article examines one of the facets of the work of our great compatriot – his travel notes and essays made on the routes of two expeditions – Central Asian (1924–1928) and Manchurian (1934–1935). These texts are considered in the context of the laws of the travelogue genre. For Roerich, the journey becomes a starting point for philosophical reflections consonant with the philosophical teaching of Living Ethics – on the unity of the cultural space of Eurasia, on the future of the planet, on Shambhala as the subject of Buddhist legends and as a spiritual reality.
