Abstract

The article presents the study of translation dominants of English-language fashion industry texts and the analysis of the techniques of their representation in the target texts. Analyzing two fashion books belonging to the instructive subtype of fashion discourse, authors identify translation dominants common to both books (informativity, dialogic interaction, expressivity of communication, communicative strategies of manipulation and self-presentation) that can potentially be extrapolated to the fashion discourse at large, as well as translation dominants typical of each book in particular (source text recipient, discourse values, interdiscoursivity, metalinguistic function of communication).
