Abstract
The article explores for the first time the formation of terminology of military aviation in French from the perspective of cognitive and diachronic terminological studies. The material of the study was collected from etymological and historical dictionaries, literature on the history of French aviation, technical manuals. The study highlighted the main stages of evolution of French aviation from the point of view of formation of its terminology. It was determined that terminology of this branch of the armed forces dated back to Latin, Gallic, Germanic, Roman and Greek etymons. The results of research have lexicographic and didactic significance.
