Abstract
The article reveals the specificity of perception and representation of alchemical imagery and symbolism in the poetics of Novalis on the material of his poems and the novel “Heinrich von Ofterdingen”. To achieve this goal, cultural-historical and myth criticism methods were used, united by a systemic approach. Alchemy is a parascientific magical practice associated with the philosophical and mystical tradition of Hermeticism, which was singularly embodied in the aesthetics and creativity of Novalis. The alchemical allegorical-symbolic code is used by Novalis to embody the idea of spiritual transformation of the subject and the universe, as well as for the synthesis of science, magic, philosophy and art in verbal creativity, which is peculiar for the romantic mindset.
