The article suggests a solution to the problem of establishing a core vocabulary group serving to explicate the metanarrative level of narration, considered as a reflexive level of communication about the narrative itself as the subject-matter of speech. Such methods as the component analysis of meaning, the computer analysis of frequency and contextual analysis enabled the author to establish the basic composition and functionality of the lexical markers of metanarrative in English.
