D. Trump's Historical Revenge

Travkina N.M.

Abstract

The article analyzes the results and key milestones of the 2024 presidential campaign, during which the Republican Party and its candidate, the 45th US President D. Trump, managed to form an agenda focused on key political and socio-economic issues that determined their confrontation with the J. Biden K. Harris Democratic administration. These issues revolved around the results of the administration's achievements in US domestic and foreign policy over the four years of Democratic governance, including areas such as the economy, illegal immigration, energy, foreign policy, and a number of other domains. American voters generally assessed the effectiveness of Democratic Party politicians in power quite negatively, which resulted in the loss of not only the White House, but also the US Senate. Together with maintaining of control over the House of Representatives and their existing advantage in the balance of power among governors, this outcome validates the occurrence of a Republican "red wave". D. Trump received a significant mandate to carry out fundamental changes in the federal government and American society, relying on which he and his closest allies in the coming years hope to carry out a conservative revolution in the coming years. In its consequences it is expected to have a similar level of significance for the United States as the American Revolution of 1765-1783.

Factors of Victory of Republican D. Trump

Shvedova N.A.

Abstract

The intrigue surrounding the winner remained until the very end. Although the numbers were slightly in favor of the Democratic candidate K. Harris, and there was a feeling that she would most likely win, it did not happen. On November 5, 2024, D. Trump, as it turned out, received the votes of almost all demographic groups in seven key states, which, as swing states, traditionally decide the fate of candidates for the highest office in the nation – the presidency. D. Trump won the majority of the voters' support. Of course, the Democratic Party is making attempts to understand the reasons for its loss and to uncover the origins and essence of its misconceptions about the American electorate. These obvious questions concern not only the defeated party but also the American public, engaged citizens on both sides, albeit for different reasons, the scientific community, and others who recognize the global influence of the United States. 1) Why did the Democratic Party lose? 2) How great is the extent of the Democrats' defeat? 3) What are the origins of the Democratic Party's misconceptions about the American electorate? 4) What factors contributed to the victory of the Republican candidate? 5) Why does Republican D. Trump, who suffered a fiasco after the first administration and was implicated in in four criminal cases – with 91 charges across federal and state levels that collectively carried a potential sentence of up to 20 years – receive a mandate for a second term?

US Leadership in Artificial Intelligence: Is There a Threat from BRICS Countries?

Vladimirov Y.L., Sheresheva M.Y.

Abstract

The article draws attention to the fact that the United States, historically the first and still recognized leader in artificial intelligence (AI) research and development, is now being challenged by rapidly developing BRICS countries. Based on a comparative analysis of US and BRICS academic publication activity using the open database developed by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), it is shown that the United States still possesses a serious advantage in the field of AI research and implementation, created by business and supported by strategic government policies. At the same time, the analysis of selected data from the ASPI database concerning critical areas of AI study confirmed the expert opinion that the position of the United States as a world leader is under increasing pressure. In terms of publication activity in the field of AI, China is either leading or ranked second after the US in almost all critical areas. In addition, the progress of some other BRICS countries is clearly visible. India demonstrates progress across all critical areas, although it still lags behind the two leaders. Iran holds notable positions in natural language processing, machine learning, AI algorithms, and hardware accelerators. Russia ranks comparatively low in the studied research metrics, though this can partly be attributed to the current geopolitical situation and the associated limitations on international publication activity. The conclusion is that cooperation among BRICS countries in complementary areas of AI research has great prospects and could determine the speed of development and implementation of technologies important for achieving technological sovereignty.

Lessons of the US Shale Revolution

Ivanov N.A., Poussenkova N.N.

Abstract

Shale hydrocarbons are found in many regions of the world; however, they are currently produced on a commercial scale only in the U.S. The authors study the resilience of U.S. shale production to external challenges and its key success factors. The two-decade history of the shale revolution demonstrates that, due to unique characteristics such as adaptability, entrepreneurial spirit, and innovativeness, U.S. oil companies have been able to weather all crises that hit the shale sector. Besides, other important success factors include state policies that have created an attractive investment climate, the diverse structure of the sector where supermajors, big, mid-size and small companies operate thus creating powerful synergies through their varied strengths. Of particular significance is the outstanding R&D potential and rapid commercialization of innovations, which have led to cost reductions and efficiency gains. This unique combination of success factors is unlikely to be replicated in other countries, ensuring that the shale sector in the U.S. will continue to actively develop in the foreseeable future.

"Helicopter Money" in the USA: Economic Targeting and the Perspective of Digital Transformation

Udovenko I.P.

Abstract

The article analyzes the use of "helicopter money" in the United States, considers the gradual transformation of its mechanism, and identifies differences between the target groups of its recipients in the economic development programs implemented by the administrations of three U.S. presidents: Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden. The relevance of the study of "helicopter money" in the United States is of practical importance for the development of a methodology for studying modern economic policy. During the transition to a new technological order, a similar redistributive mechanism begins to be applied in many countries worldwide. The author concludes that the emergence of "helicopter money" in the United States results from advancements in information and communication technologies in the sphere of monetary and fiscal policy. In turn, this acts as a prerequisite for the development of a cross-border ecosystem of digital financial assets (cryptocurrencies), encompassing countries belonging to their economic periphery.
