Training of specialists and scientific schools of the department

The beginning of training of specialists in the compressor direction at the Moscow State Technical University. N.E. Bauman refers to 1939, when the department "Compressor machines" was created. The head of the department was Professor A.N. Vedernikov, who defended his doctoral dissertation on the theory and calculation of centrifugal compressors. The teachers of the department at that time were V.P. Barmin (later Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR), who prepared and read the course of lectures "Piston compressors"; K.S. Butkevich, who read the course of lectures "Piston expanders". Professor A.N. Vedernikov read a course of lectures "Centrifugal compressors". Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 interrupted the academic work of the department.
