Peer Review Process
This "Procedure for reviewing manuscripts" submitted for publication in the scientific and methodological journal "Humanities and Education" defines the principles of scientific review adopted in the journal.
- Manuscripts submitted to the editorial board of the scientific and methodological journal "Humanities and Education" are subject to mandatory review.
- Review of manuscripts of scientific articles is carried out to maintain a high scientific and theoretical level of the publication and for the purpose of selecting the most valuable and relevant (promising) scientific works.
- Review of articles is carried out in compliance with confidentiality (the author's name is not known to the reviewer, the reviewer's name is not known to the author) (anonymous bilateral ("blind") review is carried out).
- Primary review is carried out at the request of the editor-in-chief, deputy editor-in-chief and / or executive secretary of the journal.
- Subsequent review is carried out by specialists - members of the editorial board, members of the expert council and/or other highly respected scientists collaborating with the editorial board of the journal. The reviewer cannot be the author or co-author of the reviewed work, or the scientific supervisor of the author of the article.
Reviewers are notified that the materials sent to them are the private property of the authors and contain information that is not subject to disclosure. Reviewers are not allowed to make copies or transfer the received materials to third parties.
- The reviewer must submit the review within the time frame agreed with the editorial board, but, as a rule, within a month after receiving the manuscript.
- The review should briefly assess:
- the general scientific level of the work;
- the title and its relevance to the content of the article;
- relevance of the topic;
- scientific novelty, theoretical and practical significance of the presented conclusions;
- the structure of the work;
- the presence of controversial and/or incorrect provisions in the work;
– compliance with readers' interests;
and also the reviewer's opinion on the possibility or impossibility of publishing the manuscript is expressed:
– in the author's version;
– subject to in-depth scientific and/or literary editing;
– after revision of the manuscript (indicating the list of deficiencies);
– after a fundamental revision of the manuscript and additional review (indicating the fundamental directions of revision).
- In case of a positive conclusion of the reviewers, the manuscript of the article is returned to the editors for its publication in one of the issues of the journal.
- If the review (expert assessment) or recommendations contain significant comments and a conclusion on the need to revise the article, the manuscript of the article is returned to the author to correct the comments. If necessary, a repeated review of the manuscript may be carried out by another reviewer, including by decision of the majority of the members of the editorial board. The grounds for a repeated review are:
– the reviewer's stated lack of qualification in the issues considered in the manuscript;
– insufficiently high level of the initial expert opinion;
– highly controversial provisions expressed in the manuscript.
In case of repeated negative review results, the manuscript is rejected and is not subject to further consideration. The editors of the journal send the author(s) a reasoned refusal with attached reviews without indicating the names of the reviewers(s).
The following are not accepted for publication:
- articles that are not properly formatted, the authors of which refuse technical revision of the articles;
- articles whose authors do not respond to constructive comments from the reviewer;
- articles that have received negative reviews.
The final decision on recommending a manuscript for publication or rejecting it from publication is made at a meeting of the editorial board of the journal by a simple majority of votes.
- The editors keep records of manuscripts undergoing the review procedure.
- The content of the review is communicated to the author(s), as a rule, within a week after the editors receive the expert opinion.
