Abstract
The article examines the category of “success”, which, in our opinion, is one of the basic concepts of any national culture. To understand their position in the society, individuals use certain evaluation tools, among which “success” and “failure” express diametrically opposed coordinates. The research explores the category of “success” using examples from Russian and American cultures. It is shown that despite the general understanding of this category, there are distinctive features in how “success” is perceived in different national cultures. The article concludes that the concept is shaped by the specific characteristics of a country’s national cultural development.
