Abstract
The article explores the linguistic practices of the Hausa diaspora in Khartoum and identifies the practices of using the Hausa language in various spheres of diaspora life, as well as the presence of transitions to the Hausa language in certain contexts and conditions. The author demonstrates that the use of Hausa in the symbolic, phatic, empathic communicative and conspiratorial functions in the Khartoum diaspora depends on the generation of the speaker. The results of the research may be useful for further research in the field of sociolinguistics, as well as for cultural and migration studies.
