The article describes the psycholinguistic method of analysis of «social images» typifying social reality. The parameters of the psycholinguistic analysis of «social images» are determined and the sequence of psycholinguistic analysis based on the typology of the data of the associative experiment according to the selected parameters and the integrative model of the actual psychological meaning is given. The possibility of using psycholinguistic methods to identify actual forms of social thinking is argued.

The paper explores verbal associations within the framework of the field approach. It focuses on a study of a set of words related in their meanings. The application of the directed associative experiment in research design made it possible to identify the structure and content of representations of threat concept. Based on 9 stimulus phrases we obtained 678 verbal reactions given by 61 subject. An analysis of those reactions for each of the stimuli presented made it possible to identify structural trends in the threat concept.

The psychologically relevant meaning of a word for a person represents the dynamics of his relationship with reality, which is a constant source of generating meanings and changing the linguistic competence of the emerging personality. Based on the associative field of the lexeme citizen, presented in the “Russian Associative Dictionary” and the “Multilingual Associative Thesaurus of Politeness”, the authors show methods for establishing predicative relationships between stimulus and reaction, in which the fundamental dynamics of the meanings of the word is presented.

The article sets out to consider theoretical aspects of event communication and to analyze a number of news items that reappeared on the BBC Homepage site during one day, and thus to prove that events are constructed as a result of multiple and repeated references to the related episodes within a certain period of time and focus change achieved by shifts in news location on the front page and a variety of headlines. The analysis also shows that words play a more important role in conveying messages, whereas pictures are used as effective means of emotional influence.

The authors discuss the concept of pragmatic identity proposed by Chen Xinren. It is contextualized identity of communicants which is constructed discursively in the course of interaction. The perspectives of the research into pragmatic identity, the strategies and means of its construction and other aspects of Chen Xinren’s theory, as well as the development of this theory by Chinese linguists, are demonstrated. The authors come to the conclusion that the theory under consideration is applicable to other cultures, being a promising line of linguopragmatic research.

In the article the peculiarities of a sales page of a company web-site are analyzed. The author comes to the conclusion about the possibility of singling out of a sales page subgenre on the basis of such features, as stability (the recurring use in conventionalized communicative settings), presence of permanent characteristics and a set of communicative purposes. In the paper the classification of the main characteristics of this subgenre is provided. An example of a sales page of a product is analyzed to describe the mechanism of interaction of the textual and graphic component within this subgenre.

The article deals with the phenomenon of pronominalization of Russian adjectives on the examples of the words “известный (known)” and “определенный (definite)”, which have indefinite pronoun meaning. It is noted that pronominalization primarily concerns the semantic and functional level of pronominative words, it is the result of grammaticalization and lexicalization of word forms and at the same time has a gradual nature. Each analyzed word has an individual way of transition from its original part of speech to pronouns, and therefore a detailed analysis of each case is required.

The article is devoted to the identified sources of the “Rhetoric” written by Feofan Prokopovich. Based on the analysis, Feofan Prokopovich’s system of views on the hierarchy of authoritative persons and texts in each specific section of rhetoric is reconstructed. It is established that the most cited and mentioned author is Cicero. This is due to his status in the history of oratory and the political context of the Petrine era, which actualized the imperial idea.

The paper presents a semantic and quantitative analysis of 212 original English BBC news headlines and their translations into Russian as the target language. The findings show 50/50 correlation between the equivalence and transformation strategies with higher statistical validity in favor of the former. When translated into Russian, the English headlines tended to increase in length by 19% as a result of transformations - meaning extension, specification, and sociocultural adaptation for the Russian readership.

The article is dedicated to the poetry of the British author Philip Larkin. It focuses on two poems that depicted the story of his relations with Winifred Arnott. The analysis of the poem «Lines on a Young Lady’s Photograph Album» shows influence of photography on the text. There is some similarity between the poem “Maiden Name” and the works of English metaphysical school of poetry.

The article contains the experience of applying cognitive-discursive approach to the analysis of linguo-philosophical problems in the work of the American poet and linguist P. Rogers. The study reveals the features of the creative conceptualization of the concept of «language» and the role of metalinguistic reflection in poetry, addressed to the fundamental problem of interaction between thinking, language and reality in the process of semiosis. The paper also describes cognitive techniques that help the author to form a holistic, integrated image of the language.

The two-part article is devoted to the so-called symbolic «suffering» of artifacts. We are talking about negative impacts on monuments that cause them «sufferings», but at the same time they affect (or do not affect) the material component of the objects to a small extent. The factor of plurality of positions of subjects regarding the perception of symbolic «suffering» is studied. Attention is paid to the peculiarities of the historical and cultural context that give rise to such situations. The analysis of concrete examples of causing symbolic «suffering» is carried out.
