Abstract
This study aims at examining the peculiarities in the functioning of the physiological state core semantic structure (according to A. Mustajoki) at the deep and surface levels in the Spanish language through a comparative analysis with a number of Russian language constructions. One of the principles of this paper is to analyse specific linguistic material selected from several Spanish language corpora and Spanish-language mass media sources (700 examples in total). The author of the study concludes that, within the semantic category under consideration, Russian and Spanish have largely identical deep structures, but in some cases, demonstrate differences in surface (syntactic) structures due to lexical asymmetry and differences in grammatical structure.
