Abstract
The article aims to look into the workings of discursive creativity of English idioms in terms of linguistic interpretation of knowledge. The study is focused on the linguocognitive mechanisms that underlie the formation and renovation of English idiomatic neologisms that stem from codified idioms selected from modern media discourse. Cognitive modeling of their semantics shows that idiom creativity manifests the interpretative function of language, for renovation of phraseology serves to reform knowledge structures in accordance with man’s cognitive experience; it also entails further condensation of information conveyed by the idiomatic units in discourse.
