Abstract
This review presents the Russian-Vietnamese Proverbs Dictionary (Tu dien tuc ngu Nga-Viet) composed by Buy Hien and Elena Zubtsova and published in Vietnam in 2018. This is one of the few Russian-Vietnamese phraseological dictionaries, which contains more than 3000 proverbs, selected on the basis of a study of representative dictionaries of Russian proverbs and sayings. Using this dictionary, readers could better understand Russian culture, notice its differences and similarities with the Vietnamese culture, replenish vocabulary for intercultural communication. The dictionary can serve as a reference when reading classic Russian fiction. It can also be useful for Vietnamese who study Russian language, as it allows them to penetrate into the spiritual world of the Russian people, helps to better understand their mentality and way of life. The reviewed dictionary aims to disclose the national picture of the world of our two peoples represented in proverbs and sayings.
