Editorial obligations regarding conflicts of interests

A conflict of interest arises when an author, reviewer, or editor has financial or personal relations that interfere with the impartial perception, review, or decision to publish research findings (dual commitments, competing interests, or beliefs). Interests may be financial or personal. A conflict of interest arises in the relationship with an organization or another person.

The Journal “Texts and History” does not require a formal declaration of conflict of interest. However, it is assumed that when submitting an article for consideration by the editorial board of the journal, the author declares that:

the text of the article indicates all sources of funding for the study;

There are no commercial, financial, personal or professional factors that could result into a conflict of interests in relation to the submitted article.

Otherwise, the author must make an explicit statement about a possible conflict of interests in the text of the cover letter when submitting the article for consideration by the editorial board. In addition, if a conflict of interests exists, the author may request that a particular editor and/or reviewer be excluded from consideration of the submitted article.

The same obligations should apply to editors and reviewers working on an article: they must declare a potential conflict of interests that could influence the decision of the editorial board.

The article must be evaluated without bias. The presence of the conflict of interest, which is explicitly declared by any of the participants in the review process, should not in itself lead to rejection in publication. The most important criterion when evaluating a manuscript is its scientific quality.

Authors must sign a License Agreement before publication in the journal. Please see the journal’s guidelines for authors for detailed information about the Journal’s License Agreement.
