Features and evolution of Chinese and Russian euphemisms

euphemism is a common linguistic phenomenon, and plays an important role in communication. During the communication, euphemism is used in almost all fields. To some extent, euphemism can influence whether the communication is successful or not. When language came into being, euphemism emerged accordingly. As a mixture of language and cultural phenomena, euphemism is irreplaceable in interpersonal communication. Due to differences in cultural backgrounds and language systems, language learners often fail in cross-cultural communication due to improper use of euphemisms. This paper analyzes the connotation and causes of euphemisms, compares the similarities and differences between Russian and Chinese euphemisms, reveals the characteristics of the historical changes of euphemisms in the development of the times, deepens the understanding of Chinese and Russian people about the cultures of both sides, and promotes the cross-cultural exchanges between China and Russia.
