The functional and semantic field of iteration in French

this article identifies the characteristic features of the functional and semantic field of iterativity in the French language and defines the classification of grammatical, morphological and lexical means of its expression. The theoretical analysis of the issue is based on scientific papers published in Russia and abroad, using general and special methods, including functional-semantic, descriptive, comparative-typological and contextual analysis. The essential characteristic of iterativity as a linguistic phenomenon is defined, the structure of the functional and semantic field of iterativity in the French language is compiled. The key means of expressing iterativity are analyzed, such as morphological and grammatical means: the use of the verb form imparfait, the prefix re-, the suffix -ill-; lexical means: adverbs (souvent, encore), syntactic constructions with the meaning of repetition. The theoretical and practical significance of the work lies in clarifying the concept of iterativity and its means of expression in French, which provides additional information in the field of French language theory, Romance grammar, lexicology and translation studies. The study revealed that the functional and semantic field of iteration in French includes a wide range of linguistic means, from grammatical forms to morphological markers such as affixes and lexical indicators such as adverbs. All these elements interact in the language system, providing an expression of the repeatability and multiplicity of actions. Understanding the FSP of iteration plays an important role in the study of French grammar and lexicology, as well as in the process of analytical study of texts of various genres.
