The founder and the publisher of the journal “Voprosy Materialovedeniya” is the largest materials science center in the Russian Federation – National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute” – Central Research Institute of Structural Materials “Prometey”. This is the basic organization for the creation of materials and technologies for civil shipbuilding, marine engineering and nuclear energy, which conducts research within the framework of government programs of the Russian Federation. In terms of its content, the journal “Voprosy Materialovedeniya” is independent from government authorities, academic structures and other legal entities, since the process of editorial and publishing preparation and publication is financed by the NRC “Kurchatov Institute” – CRISM “Prometey”, which, through authorized persons bears responsibility for compliance with regulations governing the requirements for publications. All articles are published free of charge, the journal has no commercial orientation, and advertising is not published.

The journal is addressed to materials scientists and practitioners in this field, engineers, designers, as well as teachers, graduate students and students of universities specializing in materials science. The publication covers theoretical and practical results of scientific research on the following issues: metallurgy and metal science, heat treatment of metals and alloys; materials for hull structures and power equipment, materials science in mechanical engineering; structural nanostructured materials and nanotechnologies, including nanosized and nanostructured powder materials; polymer composite materials, metal composites and volumetric porous nanocomposites; functional materials, including those with specified properties (amorphous, intermetallic compounds, “smart”, high-temperature superconductors, magnetic nanomaterials, fullerenes and nanotubes, functional gradient coatings, composite materials, biologically compatible materials, diamond-like films, nanocatalysts); welding and related processes, welding materials and technologies; corrosion and protection of metals; radiation materials science; structural and technological strength and performance of materials; testing, diagnostics and quality control of materials; materials science problems of recycling equipment, mechanisms, structures and metal waste.

All articles accepted for consideration undergo independent unilateral anonymous review and, if necessary, are sent to the authors for correction, revision, or significant revision. The decision on publication is made by the journal’s editorial board based on the results of consideration of the final version of the article, taking into account the recommendations of the reviewer. After manuscripts are accepted for publication, editing is carried out, then a layout is sent to the authors to reconsider the editor’s questions and sign the layout for printing. After that, usually, no corrections are made, but the editors reserve the right to make stylistic, opportunistic or technical corrections if necessary without the consent of the authors.

The editorial board appreciates that our authors include well-known scientists and specialists from leading materials science centers, universities and industrial enterprises in various regions of the Russian Federation, near and far abroad countries, as well as young promising scientists and graduate students; 60% are doctors and candidates of science. The readership of the journal, which has developed over the past years, is represented by 28 regions of our country, as well as the Republic of Belarus.

The establishment of the journal and the formation of theoretical and practical foundations for new achievements in the development of various thematic areas of domestic materials science are facilitated not only by the scientific potential and professionalism of carefully selected reviewers, but also by the creative enthusiasm of the teams of authors represented on its pages.

Members of the editorial board and the editorial team hope that “Voprosy Materialovedeniya” will provide scientific communication between scientists and materials scientists for many years to come and promote the interpenetration of ideas and the implementation of the results of scientific research and development in various industries.
