At the 1996 conference, "Higher School: Humanities and the Humanistic Basis of Education," it was decided to establish the Transbaikal Branch of the Academy of Humanities in Chita in order to develop the humanities in Transbaikal, and to unite and support, mainly, young scientists in the region. The opening of the branch took place the following year, and the chairman was elected Academician of the Academy of Humanitarian Sciences, Doctor of Historical Sciences M.V. Konstantinov. The results of the activities of the Transbaikal branch of the Academy of Human Sciences included a number of scientific and theoretical-practical events, including the publication of a scientific journal.
Initially, the journal was called the "Bulletin of the Transbaikal Branch of the Academy of Human Sciences," the first issue of which was published in 1997. This was made possible thanks to the initiative of researchers from the Transbaikal State Pedagogical University named after N.G. Chernyshevsky (now Transbaikal State University) headed by the editor-in-chief, Candidate of Philosophy D.A. Krylov, and deputy editor-in-chief, Candidate of Philosophy V.V. Kulikov.
The first editorial board included: S.E. Arshinskaya, L.I. Konovalova, V.V. Popov, B.D. Semashkin; executive secretary - I.N. Makarova. The members of the editorial board were: V.A. Abramov, A.O. Barinov, F.F. Bigzaev, T.V. Voronchenko, B.V. Emelyanov, V.K. Kolosov, O.V. Kuznetsov, V.V. Mazalov, V.V. Mantatov, A.V. Pavlov, P.B. Popov, D.E. Selyutin and A.S. Chuprov. The co-chairmen of the council were the head of the administration of the Chita region, R.F. Geniatulin, the rector of the Transbaikal State Pedagogical University named after V.P. Gorlachev, and M.V. Konstantinov, Vice-Rector for Research at ZabSPU.
Printing work was carried out on the basis of the publishing department of the university, headed by G.T. Chernyak. Subsequently, the composition of the council and members of the editorial board changed several times. In May 1999, at the 5-year reporting and election conference of the Academy of Humanitarian Sciences in St. Petersburg, the "Humanitarian Vector" was awarded the St. Petersburg Prize of the Academy of Humanitarian Sciences. The “Humanitarian Vector” was published twice a year. In March 2001, the journal was registered with the Ministry of Press. It published articles not only by Russian, but also by foreign scientists.
The permanent sections of the journal were: "Philosophy", "Pedagogy and Psychology", "Transbaikalian Meridian", "Historical Pantheon", "Abovo" - the column published articles by graduate students and talented students, "Experience, Methods, Programs", "Review Department" and "Scientific Life". The column “Philosophical Poetry of Russia” edited by V.V. Kulikov gave the scientific journal its originality. In the future, it was planned to create a specialized youth supplement, which was published in 2003 as the almanac "In the World of Science" with the support of the Committee for Vocational Education, Science and Youth Policy of the Chita Region. Due to financial and organizational problems, the publication of the journal was discontinued in the same year. But after a four-year break, the next issue of the journal was published on September 19, 2007.
Since 2008, the journal “Humanitarian Vector” has been published within the framework of the Laboratory for the Study of Interpersonal and Intergroup Relations (Head of the Laboratory, Doctor of Philosophy, N.D. Subbotina). As in the beginning of its journey, the main specialization of the journal remains: the publication of scientific articles, research and methodological materials in the humanities.
Currently, the “Humanitarian Vector” is published by the Publishing Complex of ZabSU, the thematic areas have changed, the composition of the editorial board has been updated, and the articles are being reviewed. The journal is included in the list of the Higher Attestation Commission and in the Russian Science Citation Index system.
