The first issue of the journal was published in 1922 under the title "Izvestia of the Gorsk Polytechnic Institute," four years after the founding of the Polytechnic Institute in Vladikavkaz. The issue was printed by the First State Typographic House of Vladikavkaz in a print run of 300 copies. Over the years "Izvestia..." pioneered materials on the results and methods of key scientific research, outlining the progress and methods of the university's scientists. The journal reflected the latest achievements in fundamental and industry sciences, and also discussed issues of scientific, technological, social, economic and environmental progress. The first issue included a report on the agricultural and labor departments of the Gorsk Polytechnic Institute from 1918 to 1922, as well as scientific articles by scientists whose names and discoveries are forever etched in the history of science. These are articles by lecturer G.B. Bugdanov, professors A.R. Günther, A.M. Pankov, A.I. Petrusov, E.A. Shteber, and assistant E.F. Pavlov.
Even then in 1922 the first issue of Izvestia… became the primary timely and up-to-date source of new information on scientific research. Very opportunely during the locust control campaign in the Mountain Republic in 1922 lecturer Georgy Bugdanovich Bugdanov's article "From Biological Observations on Migratory Locusts" was published. Locusts were causing colossal damage to grain crops. Consequently in the fall of 1921, the Department of Plant Protection from Mass Pests surveyed croplands in the Mountain Republic to identify areas infested by locusts and determine the extent of their infestation. The information collected that fall proved incomplete. The most accurate information was available in the Nazran and Vladikavkaz districts.
During the difficult 1930s individual issues of the journal contained only one article. Volume II (8), Issue 5, 1933, described the research of Associate Professor Khasanbek Dzanagov, "Mountain Pastures and Hayfields of the Dzhimaran District," while Volume II (8), Issue 7, 1933, was dedicated to the scientific work of Associate Professor F.G. Sokhranov, "Partial Replacement of Cow's Milk with Soy Milk in Feeding Calves."
Over the years the name of the university has changed several times, and the journal's name has changed accordingly. Since 1926, the journal has been called "Proceedings of the Gorsky Agricultural Institute," and from 2001 to the present, "News of the Gorsky State Agrarian University." The scientific journal is the primary conduit for innovation in science and serves as a means of communicating scientific information across space and time ensuring the continuity and cooperation of scientific work.
In 2020, the journal received registration certificate PI No. FS 77-77787 dated March 4, 2020 under the name "Izvestiya of the Gorsk State Agrarian University." In accordance with the recommendations of the Higher Attestation Commission (HAC) the editorial board included prominent Russian and international scientists who made a significant contribution to strengthening the journal's authority. New requirements in the HAC List significantly limited the number of thematic sections of the journal. The editorial board members had to decide on the fields of science and groups of specialties in which publications would be published. The selection criterion was the university's presence of dissertation councils and major scientific schools renowned not only in Russia but also internationally.
