Alimova A.D.

Abstract

The paper examines the role of the translator’s individual style in translating free indirect speech from English into Russian. Three translations of J. Joyce’s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man have been examined to define the parameters of individual variations. The findings suggest that major differences in translating free indirect speech lie in the way translators deal with expressive markers and introduce free indirect speech where there are no corresponding structures in the English original.

However, French was formed from many elements, and various factors were involved in its formation, which led, as a result of pidginisation and subsequent creolisation, to the formation, on the basis of synthetic initial elements, of analytical French language.
