Simulation of copper(II) cations sorption on goethite from aqueous solutions of complexons

Kropacheva T.N., Antonova A.S., Kornev V.I.

Abstract

Effect of complexons of polyaminopolycarboxylic acid series (IDA, NTA, EDTA, and DTPA) and polyphosphonic acid series (HEDP, NTP, and EDTP) on Cu(II) cations sorption on goethite (α-FeOOH) from aqueous solutions has been studied. Obtained results have been considered in the context of complexation reactions in bulk solution and on sorbent surface. It has been found that all complexons (except for EDTA), depending on nature, produce on goethite surface (≡FeOH) triple complexes of type A (surface–metal–complexon) of composition ≡FeOCuLHi1+in and ≡FeOCuL(OH)j1−jn or type B (surface–complexon–metal) of composition ≡FeLHiCu3+i-n and ≡FeLCu(OH)j3−jn. pH-Ranges for complex existence and stability constants for the surface complexes have been determined. Factors affecting the character of complexon effect (immobilization/remobilization) on the sorbed metal have been analyzed.

Regularities of change in the structural parameters of EuLnCuS3 (Ln = La–Nd, Sm, Gd, Ho)

Ruseikina A.V., Andreev O.V.

Abstract

Regularities of change in the structural parameters of EuLnCuS3 (Ln = La–Nd, Sm, Gd, Ho) at an annealing temperature of 970 and 1170 K have been established. A decrease in the Ln3+ ionic radius results in the consecutive change of structural types (STs) for the compounds: α-EuLnCuS3 (Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd; BaLaCuS3 ST) → β-EuLnCuS3 (Ln = Ce, Pr, Nd; Ba2MnS3 ST) → γ-EuLnCuS3 (Ln = Sm, Gd, Ho; Eu2CuS3ST). The change of structural types for EuLnCuS3 leads to a jump-like change in their unit cell parameters and the transformation of coordination polyhedra shaped as a one-capped trigonal prism LnS7 (α and β phases) into an octahedron LnS6 (γ phases). The appearance of morphotropic changes correlates with the tetrad effect.

Kondrat’eva O.N., Tyurin A.V., Nikiforova G.E., Khoroshilov A.V., Ketsko V.A., Gavrichev K.S.

Abstract

The heat capacity of Mg(Fe0.6Ga0.4)2O4 in the temperature range of 4.56–804.9 K is measured by adiabatic and differential scanning calorimetry. The temperature dependence of the heat capacity of Mg(Fe0.6Ga0.4)2O4 in the 0–800 K range is determined by generalizing the experimental data. The temperature dependences of thermodynamic functions (entropy, enthalpy change, and the reduced Gibbs free energy) are calculated. The abnormal contribution to the heat capacity Cpan(T) in the temperature range of 5–52 K is estimated.

Abstract

Arsenates A0.5Zr2(AsO4)3 (A = Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba), synthesized through sol–gel route with subsequent heat treatment, have been studied by X-ray diffraction, electron probe microanalysis, and IR spectroscopy. Mg0.5Zr2(AsO4)3 crystallizes in the Sc2(WO4)3 structure type (space group P21/n). A0.5Zr2(AsO4)3 (A = Ca, Sr, Ba) crystallize in the NaZr2(PO4)3 structure type (space group \(R\bar 3\) ). The Ca0.5Zr2(AsO4)3 and Ba0.5Zr2(AsO4)3 structures have been refined by the full-profile analysis. The structure frameworks are composed of ZrO6 octahedra and AsO4 tetrahedra. The alkaline earth metal atoms occupy one of the two extraframework positions inside the structure columns. The internal vibrational frequencies of the AsO43- tetrahedron have been assigned. The number of the observed bands corresponds to the number predicted by the factor group analysis of vibrations for space groups \(R\bar 3\) and P21/n.

Phase formation and physicochemical properties of solid solutions Bi4–yTbyTi3O12 based on layered bismuth titanate

Fortalnova E.A., Politova E.D., Ivanov S.A., Safronenko M.G.

Abstract

The phase formation of solid solutions Bi4–yTbyTi3O12, where y = 0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, and 0.8, was studied, and a scheme of this process in an oxide reaction mixture was proposed. The thermal stability of the obtained solid solutions was investigated, and the phase composition and structural parameters were explored in detail by the Rietveld method. It was found that, within the tested concentration range, Bi4–yTbyTi3O12 samples crystallize in the orthorhombic system, and the concentration evolution of the unit cell parameters was traced. It was determined that the temperature of the ferroelectric phase transition decreases with increasing y, as the concentration limit of the existence of the rhombic modification of Bi4–yTbyTi3O12 is approached.

Stojnova K., Racheva P., Divarova V., Bozhinova K., Lekova V.

Abstract

The formation of an ion-associated complex between the anionic chelate of Mo(VI)–3,5-dinitrocatehol (3,5-DNC) and the cation of 3-(2-naphthyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium chloride (TV) in the liquid–liquid extraction system Mo(VI)–3,5-DNC–TV–H2O–CHCl3 was studied by spectrophotometry. The optimum conditions for the complex formation and extraction of the ion-associated complex were established. The effect of co-existing ions and reagents on the process of complex formation was investigated under optimum extraction conditions. The validity of Beer’s law was checked and some analytical characteristics were calculated. The association process in aqueous phase and the extraction equilibria were investigated and quantitatively characterized. The following key constants of the processes were calculated: association constant, distribution constant, extraction constant and recovery factor. The molar ratio of the reagents was determined by independent methods. Based on this, a reaction scheme, a general formula and a structure of the complex were suggested.

Abstract

Ruthenium(III) has been efficiently extracted from 0.05 M sodium succinate at pH 9.5 by 2-octylaminopyridine in xylene and stripped with aqueous 10% (w/v) thiourea solution and determined spectrophotometrically. Various parameters viz., pH, weak acid concentration, reagent concentration, stripping agents, contact time, loading capacity, aq.: org. volume ratio, solvent has been thoroughly investigated for quantitative extraction of ruthenium(III). The utility of method was analyzed by separating the ruthenium(III) from binary mixture along with the base metals like Cu(II), Ag(I), Fe(II), Co(II), Bi(III), Zn(II), Ni(II), Se(IV), Te(IV), Al(III) and Hg(II) as well as platinum group metals (PGMs). Ruthenium(III) was also separated from ternary mixtures like Os(VIII), Pd(II); Pd(II), Pt(IV); Pd(II), Au(III); Pd(II), Cu(II); Fe(II), Cu(II); Ni(II), Cu(II); Co(II), Ni(II); Se(IV), Te(IV); Rh(III), Pd(II); Fe(III), Os(VIII). The stoichiometry 1: 2: 1 (metal: succinate: extractant) of the proposed complex was determined by slope analysis method by plotting graph of logD[Ru(III)] versus logC[2-OAP] and logD[Ru(III)] versus logC[succinate]. The interference of various cations and anions has been studied in detail and the statistical evaluations of the experimental results are reported. The method was successfully applied for the analysis of ruthenium in various catalysts, synthetic mixtures corresponding to the composition of alloys and minerals.
