The article makes an attempt to consider the geopolitical status of the state, concept, content and structure, to emphasize its significance in the context of intensifying global competition and geopolitical confrontation. The author concludes that geopolitical status includes international weight, economic, technological, military, demographic and resource potentials, the degree of geo-civilizational influence on neighbors and other characteristics. In the study of geopolitical status, general scientific methods, specific scientific geopolitical methods, as well as methods of
civilizational geopolitics are used. 

From the point of view of international law and in political terms, and often euphemistically, an interstate war is now defined as a conflict. Nevertheless, she remains a «real chameleon.» Its political, military, socio-economic and cultural conditions are radically different from those that existed in the time of Clausewitz. The maxims of the primacy of politics and the ratio of political and military goals and means of war continue to operate in the context of nuclear deterrence and its key factors, such as potentials, capabilities, threat, perception, and trust.

The article deals with the problem of the development of the ethnopolitical process in modern Russia. The prerequisites for conflict in the sphere of interethnic relations in the Russian Federation are identified, which are associated with the influence of globalization processes and specific conditions for the institutionalization of ethnic elites as subjects of political communication. It is concluded that there is a need to review established approaches to the implementation of state national policy in the modern Russian Federation.

The article examines the activities of state and local authorities of the North-West Territory of the Russian Empire to resolve the problem of the presence of the Polish question. It lists the measures to eliminate the influence of Polish nationalism in the North-West Territory, taken later by the tsarist administration in the management of the periphery of the Empire in order to ensure security in the region. The work uses retrospective, problem-chronological, historical-comparative, as well as general scientific methods of research.

The article analyzes the problem of the Black Sea straits in the relations between Russia and Turkey. It considers the peculiarities of the foreign policy course of the two countries in the historical context and at the present stage. The consequences of the violation of the balance of power in case of a new conflict between Moscow and Ankara are determined. Historical and analytical methods of research are used, which allowed to study the characteristic features of interaction between the two countries in the XX - XXI centuries and to understand their intentions in ensuring national interests.

The article explores the trends in the development of the concept of lifelong education, which is based on the idea that not only the younger generation, but also the adult population can and should receive new knowledge and skills. To determine the relevance of this issue in the modern scientific field, approaches to this concept, quantitative indicators of the topic's representation in literary sources were considered, and the directions of publications in the academic peer-reviewed journal «Educational Studies Moscow» were analyzed.

The article analyzes data from content-analysis of image of contemporary Russia in the Western press on the example of online newspapers in the UK (Telegraph, Guardian), France (Figaro, Libération) and the USA (New-York Times, Washington Times). The author points up the key traits of the country image in public opinion in Western countries.

The article examines the features and challenges of designing and assessing the quality of sample data collected in telephone surveys of the Russian population. It focuses on methodological and analytical issues related to determining the sampling basis for telephone surveys, selecting telephone numbers using various methods, and evaluating the quality of selective telephone surveys based on AAPOR standards.

Mass events are notable facts of the city's event calendar, and being initiated by cultural institutions, they serve the purpose of attracting the contingent and image formation, stimulating interest in attendance. On the basis of correlation and variance analysis, the article explores hypotheses of interaction with cultural institutions and attendance of urban events, and raises their role as a separate and isolated type of cultural leisure.
