Abstract

Importance. The use of interactive simulators in the training of IT specialists is considered. The relevance is due to the need for high-quality training of specialists in the field of information technology for the country’s digital economy in conditions of a significant shortage of personnel, high dynamics of knowledge in the subject area being studied and the need for a constant connection between training and the inclusion of students in real practice-oriented professional activities. A module for automated verification of program code for the Moodle LMS is developed and, using it, interactive simulators have been created for training specialists in the field of web technologies.Research Methods. To achieve the research goals, various methods are used, including analysis of pedagogical literature, generalization and systematization of data. When developing an interactive simulator, various methods and approaches are used, namely: structural and functional modeling to describe the design of the simulator; principles of object-oriented programming to ensure flexibility and extensibility of the simulator; integration into a distance learning system for using the simulator as part of a training course; statistical processing of experimental results to analyze the effectiveness of the simulator and make the necessary adjustments. Results and Discussion. Changes in the scientific and economic sphere of our country have increased the contradictions between the needs of society and the level of IT specialists produced by the personnel training system. Technological modernization, integration of scientific fields and the constant formation of new knowledge dictate new requirements for IT specialists. From a good educational course for training IT specialists, we expect not only a large volume of practical tasks, but also the ability to quickly receive feedback. Online simulators are successfully used by many educational platforms to intensify the training process of IT specialists and increase student involvement in the educational process. A module for automated checking of HTML and CSS code for the Moodle LMS is developed and online simulators were created based on it. An experiment is conducted to introduce the developed simulators into the educational process. Students, based on the assignments they receive, can write code on their own, work with errors, take hints, receive immediate feedback, and move on to the next assignments. To assess the effectiveness of using the developed simulators in the educational process, the ratio of the number of students who successfully completed practical tasks and those who started them is chosen. We compared this indicator with the indicator of successful completion of practical tasks in groups where there was no simulator. For the experiment, groups of students with a comparable initial level of competencies in the field of web development are selected. The experiment showed that in groups undergoing training using the developed interactive simulators, the ratio of successfully completed practical tasks is 18 % higher than in groups of students studying without the use of simulators.Conclusion. Effective selection of available instrumental resources allows you to quickly and economically implement distance learning components specific to IT specialties, in accordance with the needs of the digital economy of the Russian Federation. The use of such technological tools not only improves the quality of education, but also prepares students for the demands of the modern labor market. It is extremely important for higher education institutions to adapt to the changing needs of the digital economy, and the use of interactive simulators is one of the key steps in this direction. The developed module for automated checking of HTML and CSS code for the Moodle LMS and simulators built on its basis will strengthen the practical component of training specialists in web technologies in the higher education system. This will ensure that students acquire the practical skills and knowledge needed for their future careers in the rapidly evolving digital world.

A sight translation contest as a tool to identify common student difficulties in translating economics texts

Stepanova M.M., Lukyanova V.S.

Abstract

Relevance. Sight translation of business documents and news is widely used in today’s business communication. Unfortunately, this type of translation is often overlooked in university curricula. Sight translation is seen as a mere step towards simultaneous interpretation and is skipped. However, it is this type of translation that we need to focus on, as a large number of translation errors are reported in real-life situations.Materials and Methods. We analyzed and aggregated available data from open sources: university website posts about the student contest, surveys of contestants, interviews with organizers and judges, qualitative and quantitative analysis of the most common difficulties (emotional, cognitive and motor challenges) and presented our experience with the organization of the student translation contest at the Moscow Institute of International Relations, Oditsovo Campus. Results and Discussion. We categorized the typical errors made by the participants. The errors can be purely linguistic, caused by insufficient language skills, and extra-linguistic (emotional, cognitive and motor). The most important reasons for making errors are low stress resistance, lack of attention, insufficient understanding of the subject matter and, as a consequence, poor understanding of the context, insufficient knowledge of special terminology, and missing intra-sentence references.Conclusion. The research shows that a sight translation contest is an effective tool for identifying and preventing common difficulties that students may have in translating specialized texts.

Bryxina I.E.

Abstract

Importance. The methodological potential of mental cards for interconnected teaching of a foreign language and the specialty of future social workers is considered. This technology, used as part of integrated subject-language teaching of the French language and specialty, helps students visualize and control the material being studied, providing the opportunity to see several ideas in a small space. The theoretical description of mental maps is analyzed, their importance for teaching the grammatical side of foreign language speech and its activation in classes in a non-linguistic university is substantiated.Materials and Methods. During the study the theoretical analysis of scientific and methodological literature and advanced methodological experience were used; experiential learning; observation; survey; descriptions; elements of quantitative calculations. Results and Discussion. To create educational mental cards, the following components are proposed: the main idea or purpose of studying the material, secondary (and subsequent) ideas, connections between components, illustrative material, color stimulus, and others corresponding to the topic of the course. An algorithm for working with mental cards has been defined, which includes four main stages, each of which may contain additional stages: informational (organization of work with the topic being studied), technological (working with elements of a mental card, their comprehension, discussion and memorization), procedural (correction of the mental card), final (discussion on authentic text fragments containing studied grammatical structures and their discussion). The following oral and written professional tasks were identified: sketch, testing, abstract, discussion. The feasibility of using mental cards in teaching grammar is confirmed in the experiment conducted by the authors; statistical calculations and questioning of students have proven the effectiveness of the proposed technology.Conclusion. The effectiveness of using mental cards in the learning process is predetermined by their properties, including clarity (you can view the vocabulary being studied and note shortcomings), attractiveness (aesthetic appearance), timeliness (see what information is missing), possibility of revision (allows you to remember and assimilate the material, identify the causes of possible difficulties). This technology demonstrates a wide range of possible methods for the development of linguistic thinking, both in the field of analyzing vocabulary and grammar in the specialty being studied, and in using it for any stage of work at a non-linguistic university. The effectiveness of using mental cards for the formation of the grammatical side of foreign language speech in situations of professional communication, as well as for increasing motivation for learning a foreign language in the field of professional communication, is noted.

The measurement of muscle strength of the hands is carried out with a hand dynamometer, research of the level and development of static strength endurance is carried out with test for holding a medical ball weighing 2 kg in the outstretched hands. Results and Discussion. The dynamometric measurements data of both right and left hands of junior women do not differ reliably from the results of senior women. The maximum strength of the women’s right arm is 25.11 kg and the left arm is 23.44 kg (p > 0.05). The average value in ball retention of the first year students is 85.31 s, the second year – 96.73 s, the third year – 112.62 s, the fourth year – 120.7 s. Comparison of the obtained test results shows a reliable improvement in the time of holding the ball in the outstretched hands among the senior students (p < 0.01). The obtained test values formed the basis of the scale for assessing the arms and upper shoulder girdle muscles static endurance development level of trainees.Conclusion. The deficit of motor activity in students, most clearly manifested by the senior years of study, negatively affects the development of hand strength. The variety of hand movements used in the aerobic part of the recreational aerobics class, as well as work with muscles in static and dynamic modes in strength training, have a positive effect on increasing the static endurance of the hands and upper shoulder girdle muscles of students.

Mizis Y.A.

Abstract

Importance. The establishment of a multinational Russian state is an important goal of scientific historical research. The study of Verkhotsenskaya volost history reflects the role of the Russian and Mordovian people in the exploration of Potsenye territory in the 16th–17th centuries, the formation of the Great Russian nation.Materials and Methods. The main sources of the research is the documents of the Russian State Archive of Ancient Acts of the 17th century, scattered in different fonds, mainly of the Order-incharge prikaz, Pomestniy prikaz, as well as the Cadastres of 1676–78. Archive of the St. Petersburg Institute of Russian History. Results and Discussion. The study of agricultural activity of the Verkhotsenskaya volost peasants shows the diversity of the local population’s occupations, in which farming and wild-hive beekeeping became decisive. The region exploration was carried out under the sign of continuity of traditions of Russian farming and Mordovian wild-hive beekeeping. The presence of large stocks of river fish and wild animals on the border territory during almost the whole 17th century allowed to preserve hunting and fishing as an important occupation of the local population.Conclusion. The study of the Verkhotsenskaya volost history allows to visualize the complex process of the Great Russian nationality establishment and the formation of regional traditions. Verkhotsenskaya volost, its human and material losses during the Smolensk war of 1632–1634 became one of the main reasons for the Belgorod line construction, the beginning of which was laid by the fortifications of the Kozlovsky section and the Tambov line. Here combined the interests of the tsar to protect his fiefdom and the interests of the state.

On the issue of circular migrations in the city of Kizlyar in the socio-economic policy context of the Russian Empire on cordon sections of the Caucasian Cordon Line Left Wing in the first half of the 19th century

Gazieva A.A.

Abstract

Importance. A number of issues of circular and pendulum migrations in the city of Kizlyar during the Caucasian War as a part of the multi-vector Caucasian policy are developed.Materials and Methods. The theoretical basis of the research is the concept of frontier, which allows considering the fortresses along the Caucasian Line as zones of economic communication. The system approach allowed considering a set of strategies for the development of fortress towns along the Caucasian Cordon Line as components of Caucasian policy, based on various methods of policy implementation and having feedback. Results and Discussion. The socio-economic policy of the local administration is analyzed in the context of the Caucasian policy in general and the Caucasian War in particular. The economic frontier contributed to the influx of a large number of highlanders-itinerant-workers, which necessitated the regulation of migration processes and the formation of a trustee body over the highlanders. The development of capitalist relations, which were conditioned by the rapid pace of market development and, as a consequence, the increase in demand for the production sector, required an increase in the number of able-bodied population.Conclusion. Despite the limited competence, the trustee over the highlanders fulfilled the function of involving the highlanders in the socio-economic space of the empire, as well as taking into account the migration processes in the city, prevented the actions of non-peaceful highlanders, aimed at ruining the city and undermining the economic activity of Kizlyar as a key link in the provision supply of fortifications in the Eastern Caucasus, internal trade of the gavernorates of the empire, as well as prevented the sale of strategically important in the conditions of war goods to the mountains.

Abolition of feudal-dependent relations in the East Caucasus

Salikhova L.B.

Abstract

Importance. The study of the processes that took place on the Russian Empire outskirts, contributes to their further consideration and comparison with similar processes that took place in the center, as a Russian history comprehensive research is connected with the history of its different regions. Dependent estates types in the East Caucasus and their liberation from feudal dependence in the second half of the 19th century are considered. The importance of the research is determined by the importance of substantiating the peasant reform process, its connection with the various factors that pushed for the implementation of the reform in the territory. The purpose of the research is to identify the negative and positive aspects that influenced the fate of the East Caucasus peoples and the region development in connection with the reform.Materials and Methods. The object of the research is different types of dependent class in the East Caucasus. The methods of description, synthesis, objectivity principle, historical-comparative method, etc. are used when considering the topic of the research. Archival materials and published sources are involved. Results and Discussion. The categories of dependent people in Chechnya, Ingushetia and Daghestan are categorized, and their rights also described. It is noted that the work on the liberation of dependent estates in the Caucasus began in 1866, while the serfdom issue in the Terek region was completed by the end of 1867 and in the Daghestan region – in 1868.Conclusion. The peasant reform carried out by the Russian authorities in the East Caucasus was half-hearted and partial. Having granted freedom to some categories of dependent estates, which was positive in the reform, it did not solve the land issue. In addition, in the Daghestan region peasants dependent on beks received freedom only in 1913.

“And on the Crimean coast they finished their exodus”: the fate of fellow officers at the end of the “Great” Civil War

Kanishchev V.V.

Abstract

Importance. The life trajectories of the Russian Imperial Army officers group who stayed in the Crimea at the final stage of the “Great” Civil War are considered. The importance of the research lies in the fact that the sample is based on fates of the officers who served in various units in the Tambov governorate on the eve of the World War I and were subsequently plunged into the abyss of the national strife.Materials and Methods. The research is based on the materials of archival sources, Memory Books and electronic databases. The work is based on the prosopographical research method, which allowed to establish the life trajectories of the studied characters. Results and Discussion. It is found that of all the participants of the sample, only the revolution opponents were in Crimea. It is interesting that they were in each of the consideredunits. It is not found any mention of fellow soldiers who enlisted in the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army and fought on the peninsula.Conclusions. The denouement of the “Crimean Epopoeia” for most of them also looks typical in many respects. Someone was able to leave the peninsula, and for some it became “final residence”. In some cases it is also possible to trace the emigrant path of mentioned characters, which, has a very serious significance.

Microdemographic processes in the agrarian field: growth points and islands of stability. Tambov Region, late 20th – early 21st century

Ilyin A.Y., Kanishchev V.V.

Abstract

Importance. In modern conditions of depopulation and migration outflow of rural population it is important to study the facts of sustainable development of rural population and factors of such stability.Materials and methods. The research is based on the published and Internet statistical materials of the settlement level. A sample of several dozens of urban-type settlements and suburban rural councils located in rural areas is created as an object of study. Sociological materials on the issue of marriage of rural population are also involved. Results and Discussion. The research show that the population dynamics in the selected group of settlements at the beginning of the 21st century developed unevenly. Along with the reduction in the number of residents in most settlements and villages there were facts of the indicator growth due to migration inflow. The cases of population growth and decline in some segments of the last decades indicate the non-linearity of demographic processes. The revealed order of figures in the indicators of natural and migratory movement of residents of the studied settlements indicates the absence of extreme values. The study of the problem of economic employment of residents of suburban rural settlements and urban-type settlements show a considerable number of jobs to retain the population in these settlements.Conclusions. Demographic data at the micro-level do not allow us to speak about widespread depopulation and devastation of the rural population of the Tambov Region. But “islands of stability” and “growth points” should be studied more thoroughly, using interdisciplinary approaches of humanitarian, socio-political, natural and other exact sciences.

FOREIGN COUNTRIES’ HISTORY

Memory formation about World War I through British veterans’ activities and the historical policy of Great Britain in the 1930s.

Inkin V.V.

Abstract

Importance. The scientific problem lies in the World War I historical memory’s formation’s features’ study. The purpose of the research is to reveal what was the ratio of the state’s and veterans’ influence in the narratives’ formation of World War I historical memory in the Great Britain in the 1930s.Research Methods. The historical policy of the British government in the field of the memory about World War I was studied by a historical and systematic approach for consideration as one of the instruments of influence on the Great Britain’s society. The activity of veteran organizations and individual front-line soldiers during the 1930s was analyzed, whose protest against the state narrative of historical memory after the “Great Depression” began to fade by 1939.Results and Discussion. On the basis of the materials of the British press of the 1930s, as well as the involvement of additional sources, narratives about World War I were illustrated, which gradually changed in the 1930s. The ideology and activities of the state in the field of historical policy actively from 1932–1933 displaced negative ideas about the war, suppressed anti-war movements and pacifist sentiments in British society. The strengthening of the state’s influence on the British Legion testified to its subordination to the official agenda, which allowed the ruling circles to use veterans in the implementation of domestic and foreign policy (to develop international contacts, influence public opinion).Conclusion. The value of the research lies in the introduction into scientific circulation of the materials of the British press as historical sources that allow us to trace the gradual weakening of the role of veterans’ organizations in the field of memory about World War I by the middle of 1930s, and the strengthening of the influence of the state in this regard. The correlation of official and public (veteran) narratives in historical memory is shown.

Causes of Central-Eastern European and Baltic Countries Citizens Emigration to Great Britain (1990–2004)

Bobeshko A.V.

Abstract

Importance. In recent years, historiography, mass media, and representatives of the political elite show a growing interest in the causes of Brexit, which led to Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union. In this context, research into the Central-Eastern European and Baltic Countries Citizens Emigration to Great Britain, which contributed to the growth of anti-emigrant sentiment in the United Kingdom, is of particular importance. An important place in the study of emigration problems is occupied by analyzing the reasons for emigration and its perception by citizens of the region countriesResearch Methods. The historical and genetic method is used, which allowed to consider emigration in dynamics, reveal its causes, the main characteristics of migration flows and the perception of this process by different social groups. Results and Discussion. The socialist system collapse in Central-Eastern Europe and the Baltic States required the new governments to destroy the planned socialist economy and create new national economy organization principles. Its liberalization and integration into the world economy led at first to a decline in Gross Domestic Product, inflation, structural changes in the labor market and an increase in unemployment, especially in the difficult situation of young people. The gap in the level and quality of life between the Western Europe and Central-Eastern Europe and the Baltic states made the Eastern Europeans departure to the Great Britain attractive. Most potential emigrants according to sociological surveys and analytical research, including the commission of K. Dastman considered short-term emigration as a behavioral strategy.Conclusions. Difficulties in the Central-Eastern Europe and the Baltic States transition to a market economy result to an increase in migration attitudes among citizens. The main reason for emigration from Central-Eastern Europe and the Baltic states to Great Britain, as well as to other Western European countries, is economic reasons; the political factor did not play a significant role in all region countries.

The problem of “settler colonialism” in the history of Palestine: modern interpretations

Penkov V.F., Romanov V.V.

Abstract

A review is given of the new monograph by Palestinian-Israeli sociologist Areej Sabbah-Khoury “The Colonization of Palestine: The Zionist Left and the Making of the Palestinian Nakba” (Stanford University Press, 2023). This publication is a comprehensive historical and sociological study that examines the problem of Palestinians displacement from their lands by Israeli settlers in the first half of the 20th century. The author of monograph shares a critical approach to the official point of view in Israeli historiography on the Palestinian problem. Reviewers point to the innovative characteristics of the A. Sabbah-Khoury’s research, emphasizing her active use of interdisciplinary historical and sociological methodology. The researcher’s attention is focused on the historical relationship between the ideology of the left Zionists and the practice of seizing Palestinian lands. A. Sabbah-Khoury managed to collect rich empirical material: materials from eight Israeli archives, including the archive collections of three kibbutzim. Areej Sabbah-Khouri’s research, as shown in the review, demonstrated the importance of analyzing those aspects of settler colonialism that were practically not taken into account in official Israeli historiography (the duration of the Zionist colonial project, the features of social interaction between settlers and the local population, the role of coercion in the struggle for control over land).
